FAQs
What is the difference between a midwife and an OBGYN?
Midwives provide holistic, personalized care for low risk pregnancies and focus on natural birth, informed choice and minimal interventions. They support home births, birth centers and sometimes (depending on license type) hospitals. OBGYNs are medical doctors trained for all pregnancies, including high risk cases, surgeries and hospital births.
Is midwifery care safe??
Yes! For low risk pregnancies, midwifery care is evidence based and safe. Studies show home birth and birth center births with midwives have low intervention rates and high satisfaction. Midwives are trained to monitor for complications and transfer care if needed.
Do midwives offer pain relief?
Midwives provide natural pain management like water immersion, movement, breathing techniques, and hands on support. Some midwives in hospital settings can also offer medications or epidurals depending on their credentials and location.
Can a midwife still provide care if I need a hospital transfer?
Yes! Midwives are trained to recognize risks early and facilitate smooth transfers to medical care if necessary. Many continue offering support and advocacy even if a hospital birth becomes necessary.
